Favorite Things 2017 Violin Teacher Edition

Here are my top picks for Violin Teachers this holiday season! These studio resources are a collection of products that I’ve personally tested this year and I assure will bring you some comfort and joy-with students developing great technique while you keep your sanity!

1. Bow Buddy-around $23

These are really helping my students develop a great bow hold! We do 3 weeks on and 2 weeks off until bow grip has improved!
They’re a bit expensive but you can ask students to purchase their own and donate to your studio when they’re finished!
My daughter had the tip of her bow thumb broken when she was 2 and this has really helped her with the discomfort of holding the bow!
2. Foamalin-around $20

Are you still MAKING box violins? Rulers and macaroni and cheese boxes used to take up about an hour of each week in my studio-making and maintaining those little things was getting on my nerves. NOW I have each student purchase a foamalin. Like the bow buddys, most of my students donate them to the studio for others to use and the babies and toddlers in my little music classes love these! They are even available in a few fractional sizes! They last FOREVER and you’ll thank me when your box making violin days are behind you. I also get slightly damaged cases from my local luthier and students can practice getting the violin out and putting it away! Genius!

3. Car Decal Tape-Around $10

This tape is THE BEST (and I’ve tried them ALL) becuase it doesn’t leave any residue on the fingerboard. Your local luthier will LOVE you when it’s time for your students to move up to the next size instrument. This tape has a paper backing and you can even precut it to different lengths to save time. I think it would be fun to get a few violin teacher friends to each buy a different color and then meet and swap colors! FUN!

4. The cup that keeps your drink warm or cool ALL day long! -$13 and up
There are many different brands of this cup. The big brand name is YETI but I’m an off brand money saving gal myself, so these ozark trail cups are perfect! I have about 5 different cups in the small and large size and They keep my coffee hot in my car in the winter during a 3 hour symphony rehearsal and keep ice water ICY and cold the 8 hours I teach on Saturdays. I load up a few cups in the morning and i’m good to go!
Large cup-$13

Small cup-2 pack $23

5. Note Rush App-around $3

This app just had a MAJOR upgrade from developer Thomas Grayston. The custom and saveable options make my life easy and my students love the different and seasonal themes.
